2012 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and Ralliart

Mitsubishi makes the Lancer appeal to different audiences

2012 Mitsubishi Lancer at Jerry's

We are going to go out on a limb here and say that the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is one of the most well known Mitsubishi in the U.S.  It’s been featured in racing movies such as “The Fast and the Furious”, car games, magazines and it has been particularly successful among the car tuning crowd.

Not far behind the Lancer Evo is its very close cousin the Lancer Ralliart, and the two don’t disappoint.
While these two vehicles have similar physical characteristics they appeal to different audiences. The 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart is an affordable sedan with sporty features, the 2012 Lance Evolution is a racing machine capable of outperforming its more expensive counterparts.

The Ralliart is available as a sedan or Sportback (hatchback), while the Evo is only a sedan.

First look and engine

At first glance both the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and Ralliart look like simple tuner cars (Cars that are modified to maximize performance) as opposed to sport racing vehicles. But don’t let the looks fool you! There is plenty more to this vehicle than meets the eye and it can be seen in the driving experience with both models.

The 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution comes equipped with a 291-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and the 2012 Ralliart comes with a 237-hp version of the engine. Both the 2012 Ralliart and the Evolution models are equipped with Super All-Wheel Control, an Active Center Differential, a helical gear front differential, and Active Yaw Control (feature that uses the active differential to transfer torque to the wheels in order to have the best grip on the road).

On the road and interior

Both the 2012 Mitsubishi Evolution and Ralliart handle just like high end performance cars. The 2012 Evo has an enhanced body structure, having many of its steel body panels replaced with lightweight aluminum. The Ralliart offers some of the powertrain components from the Evo, but it still gets some serious upgrades, including the Evolution's lightweight aluminum hood with integral ductwork to keep the turbo cool. The Ralliart also has a very similar front bumper (designed to look the part of a racing machine) and dual exhaust.

Both models are equipped with quick-ratio steering that transmits information from the road surface to the car. This feature is very important for these types of vehicles, as it allows drivers to use the road conditions to influence how they drive the car.

If you feel like having your Lancer Evolution be the ultimate racing machine then the Evolution MR is for you. The 2012 Mitsubishi Evolution MR comes equipped with high-performance package that adds track-ready Bilstein shocks and Eibach springs to the vehicle, giving much better traction and poise.
The interior of the Lancer has the Evolution equipped with Recaro racing seats which are fantastic. Recaro racing seats are also available on the Ralliart, and we recommend you get them.

Both models have good backseat space, a big trunk, and come with 60/40-split rear seatbacks that fold forward to allow for more space for cargo. For the 2012 model year, Mitsubishi has also added a gloss-black instrument-panel trim.

Features

Mitsubishi went all out when it came to the features of the 2012 Lancer Ralliart and Evolution. Both models are equipped with Fog lamps, trip computer, Bluetooth, a hands-free entry system, automatic climate control, leather trim, and aluminum pedals.

The Evo GSR is a little more basic, with a five-speed manual, when compared to the Evolution MR. The Evo MR includes upgrades to the twin-clutch gearbox, a better suspension, better wheels, and HID headlamps. It also comes equipped with other extras such as the FAST (Free-Hand Advanced Security Transmitter) hands-free entry system. Optional additions include remote engine start, a navigation system with music storage capabilities and a FUSE connectivity system with voice command.
